What does it look like to pitch investors by day and fold NBA players' laundry by night? For Mike Shannon, that was simply Tuesday.
Shannon's story is one of striking contradictions. At 22, he appeared on Shark Tank in front of millions of viewers and closed a deal with Mark Cuban, then returned the very next morning to the Chicago Bulls locker room to mop floors and run errands for NBA superstars.
Shannon is the CEO and co-founder of Impruve, an AI-native operating system built for financial advisors. Before that, he co-founded Packback, an AI-powered education platform used by millions of students, recognized by TIME as a Top EdTech Company and by Fast Company as one of the 10 Most Innovative Companies. Over 12 years, he scaled that business from a scrappy startup to $20M in annual recurring revenue and a $50M+ acquisition.
His path is a testament to the grind behind entrepreneurial success, one that began in the most unlikely of settings. Those experiences are captured in his upcoming book, Sweaty Equity: A Ball Boy, a Billionaire, and the Bonkers Startup Tale You've Never Heard.
Shannon holds a B.S. in Finance from Illinois State University and sits on the board of Future Founders, a nonprofit supporting thousands of aspiring young entrepreneurs nationwide.
His episode on Aspiriant's Money Tales podcast dives into the money conversations every entrepreneur needs to have, making it a must-listen for anyone navigating the highs and lows of startup life.
